The high density cleaner is used in recycled pulp and paper applications to eliminate glass and other heavy foreign particles from the pulp using centrifugal force. A motor drives a central vanned drum to separate the pulp and in this case the shaft was damaged, bearings had failed and the gland packing was leaking. All components were measured and modelled with the correct bearing tolerances and axial positions determined as per original specification. In addition to this, the gland packing was replaced with a mechanical seal. Drawings were developed and the required components manufactured out of stainless steel and the customer was up and running again.
